  • Experience Needed to Understand Talk: Developer familiar with Cassandra
  • Details: The data analysis landscape has changed dramatically in a short amount of time. Hadoop is now an 11 year old technology and the MapReduce paradigm still makes sense for some use cases, but Robbie will introduce attendees to high-speed in-memory analysis using Spark. Spark's developer-friendly collection-based API is reason enough to take a look, not to mention its support for streaming analysis. Shark allows you to run HiveQL queries against your Spark cluster. Robbie will show you how to get everything up and running--and working with open source Cassandra as your operational database.

  • Speaker: Robbie Strickland, Software Development Manager at The Weather Channel

Robbie works for The Weather Channel’s digital division as part of the team that builds backend services for weather.com and the TWC mobile apps. He has been involved in the Cassandra project since 2010 and has contributed in a variety of ways over the years; this includes work on drivers for Scala and C#, the Hadoop integration, heading up the Atlanta Cassandra Users Group, and answering lots of Stack Overflow questions.
